About the CEnT-S Admission Test

What the CEnT-S is

The CEnT-S is the English-language admission test run by CISIA and used by several Italian universities for degree programmes taught mainly in English — across engineering, economics, and the sciences. It replaced the earlier English-language TOLC tests, so if your target course is taught in English, the CEnT-S is likely the entry test you'll need rather than an Italian TOLC. Always confirm on your programme's official admission notice (bando).

Test structure and timing

The CEnT-S has 55 questions and lasts 110 minutes, divided into five separately-timed sections: Mathematics (15 questions in 30 minutes), Reasoning on texts and data (15 in 30), Biology (10 in 20), Chemistry (10 in 20), and Physics (5 in 10). You work through the sections in order — you cannot go back to a previous section, and time left over in one section cannot be carried into the next. Pacing within each section is as important as knowing the material.

Scoring and normalisation

Each correct answer is worth +1 point, an unanswered question scores 0, and each wrong answer costs -0.25. Because wrong answers carry a penalty, guessing blindly can lower your score, so it pays to answer strategically. CISIA then applies a normalisation that converts your raw score into the final official score, using a coefficient that reflects how difficult your specific session was — which is why two students with the same raw score on different sessions can end up with different official results.

How admission actually works

There is no single CEnT-S pass mark. Each university and programme decides which sections count, what threshold applies, and how candidates are ranked, and these rules vary by programme, applicant category, and academic year. Treat your CEnT-S result as one input into a programme-specific ranking, and always check the official admission notice for your target course before you apply. The most reliable way to lift your result is consistent, timed practice under the real section-by-section structure.

What Students Say

Hear from students who successfully prepared for the CEnT-S admission test.

SC
Sofia C.Milan, Italy

I passed the CEnT-S with a score of 44 points. The simulations were incredibly realistic and helped me manage my time across all 5 sections.

JH
James H.London, UK

As an international student, the English-language practice was exactly what I needed. The biology and chemistry explanations were excellent.

AR
Anna R.Rome, Italy

After struggling with the physics section, I used the topic filtering to focus my practice. My score improved by 15 points.

MK
Marco K.Berlin, Germany

The detailed analytics helped me understand which sections needed more work. I went from failing to scoring 38 points.

EP
Elena P.Barcelona, Spain

I did over 40 simulations before the real test. The question bank is massive and the scoring feels exactly like the real CEnT-S.

TB
Thomas B.Vienna, Austria

The platform made it easy to prepare from abroad. The explanations for the mathematics section were particularly helpful.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the CEnT-S test and preparation.

What is the CEnT-S and who takes it?

The CEnT-S is the CISIA English-language admission test used by several Italian universities for degree programmes taught mainly in English (engineering, economics, sciences). If your target programme is in English, it may require the CEnT-S instead of an Italian TOLC.

How is the CEnT-S structured?

55 questions, 110 minutes, across five separately-timed sections: Mathematics (15 questions / 30 min), Reasoning on texts and data (15 / 30), Biology (10 / 20), Chemistry (10 / 20), and Physics (5 / 10).

How is the CEnT-S scored?

+1 per correct answer, 0 for a blank, -0.25 for each wrong answer. CISIA then applies a normalisation, so your final official score can differ from your raw score depending on the difficulty of the session you sat.

Can I go back to a section or reuse leftover time?

No. Each section is separately timed; once its time is up you move on, and you can't return to a previous section or carry unused time forward.

What score do I need to be admitted?

It depends on the university and programme — some count only certain sections, and thresholds/rankings vary by programme, applicant category, and year. Always check the official admission notice (bando) for your target programme.

Is CEnT-S access a one-time payment or a subscription?

Access to the UniExamFocus CEnT-S course is a monthly subscription, billed each month, and you can cancel anytime — there's no long-term commitment.
